Happy New Year!
I hope everyone has had a nice long Christmas Break. School will resume for the students on January 4. I am looking very forward to getting back into the 1st Grade curriculum. Things will change a bit when we go back. The students will be excepted to be able to do more of the work on their own. I will still be right there if they need help and will be more than glad to help. However, the students need to be preparing for 2nd Grade were they will work more independently. I still have a lot of skills to cover between now and the end of May. So please make sure your child is at school on time each day. Also try to look at the binder each night for homework and see that your child completes it. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through my school e-mail or call me at 357-7450.

The holidays are just around the corner. Mrs. Davis' class will be making many Christmas ornament for the tree. Along with these ornaments we will be talking about Christmas Around the World. This is a great opportunity for the students to see how other countries celebrate the holiday.
We are looking forward to the Christmas Party on Dec. 17 at 8:15. All parents are welcome to attend the party.
I am really enjoying having the class that I have this year. They are all willing to work together and get along. That makes a big difference when I am teaching.
I hope each of you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

October News
Mrs. Davis' Detectives are excited about the month of October. We are going to continue our Apple Unit and be making applesauce in the classroom when we return from Fall Break. In math we are adding using number lines and doubles. This is just a few tools we can add to our math tool box. In reading we have just completed the first of five reading books. We are learning lots of new sight words and reading skills. October is filled with lots of activities. We will be taking our first field trip to Fenders Farm. We will get to explore a corn maze and pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
I hope everyone enjoys Fall Break! Mrs. Davis is going to visit with Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Disney. I hope to bring back some great pictures for all to see!

August 2010
We have gotten started off to a great year. I have 14 wonderful kids in my class. This week we are working on color words and number words along with our reading sight words. I will be sending a reading book home each night for your child to read to you. Please sit down and listen as your child reads his/her little reader. We are studying the unit ALL ABOUT ME. Each child is making a book with different things related to them. We are all alike and we are all different. This is a fun activity for the children to do.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at davism@hck12.net or send me a note. Check the blog weekly for updated information.

I hope everyone has had a restful Fall Break! Upon returning from our break, we will start with long vowel words for spelling. In math we will continue with addition and subtraction. I plan on sending some math homework home once a week. Please see that your child completes his/her homework. We will start discussing pumpkins and spiders between now and Halloween. We will be having a Fall Share a Snack on Friday, October 30. I will send home more information on this. The Fall field trip will be on November 2. We are going to see a Junie B. Jones play at the Eastman Center and then to Warriors Path State Park for a picnic and playground time. Information will be coming very soon on this topic also. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Davis' Detectives are having a great time in 1st grade. We have started the new reading book and spelling words. We have learned how to write a complete sentence. In math we have just finished up the addition chapter and moving on to subtracting next week. All this is new to the students and they are absorbing it quickly.
We had a special treat on Thursday from the parents of Carmen Musick (a volunteer at our school). Her father grew a watermelon that weighed over 65 lbs. He shared the watermelon with a 4th grade class and a our first grade class. What a treat!
We are looking forward to Nurse Nikki Collier coming to visit our class on Friday. In studying community helpers we have learned alot about our community.
