Spring - 2011

The fun is yet to start in 1st grade. After Spring Break, we have a ton of fun activities to do. The units that will be taught are as follows: insects, life cycles of frogs and butterflies, plants, landforms and Spring (weather). This is my favorite part of the year. We are now building on everything that we have learned in math. We still have new reading skills to cover but we will be working a lot on fluency and phonics. Please keep a watch out for homework each night. I will be sending different things home during the week, so watch homework binders.
Easter is just a few more weeks away and Mrs. Davis' class will have a egg hunt and party on the Thursday before Easter. I will send home more information closer to date.
The 1st grade teachers are in the process of planning a Spring field trip. More information will come when we decide where we are going.
There are 9 weeks left for the 1st graders before they are dismissed for Summer Break. I have a lot planned for the next 9 weeks so please make sure your child is at school each day.

February is here! There are tons of activities taking place this month. The King and Queen of Hearts Dance will be on Friday, February 11 from 5-7. The crowning will take place at 7. We will have a Valentine Party on February 14 at 2:00. I will send home information on Feb. 1. The next SWPBS Celebration will take place at 8:15 Friday, Feb. 11. Keep earning those Jet Fuels so you can attend and have fun.
Our class is still very busy learning all types of new skills in reading and math. Telling time and counting money is just around the corner so start practicing those skills. The most important thing is to READ, READ, READ!
Keep checking the blog for more information.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has had a nice long Christmas Break. School will resume for the students on January 4. I am looking very forward to getting back into the 1st Grade curriculum. Things will change a bit when we go back. The students will be excepted to be able to do more of the work on their own. I will still be right there if they need help and will be more than glad to help. However, the students need to be preparing for 2nd Grade were they will work more independently. I still have a lot of skills to cover between now and the end of May. So please make sure your child is at school on time each day. Also try to look at the binder each night for homework and see that your child completes it. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through my school e-mail or call me at 357-7450.

The holidays are just around the corner. Mrs. Davis' class will be making many Christmas ornament for the tree. Along with these ornaments we will be talking about Christmas Around the World. This is a great opportunity for the students to see how other countries celebrate the holiday.
We are looking forward to the Christmas Party on Dec. 17 at 8:15. All parents are welcome to attend the party.
I am really enjoying having the class that I have this year. They are all willing to work together and get along. That makes a big difference when I am teaching.
I hope each of you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

October News

Mrs. Davis' Detectives are excited about the month of October. We are going to continue our Apple Unit and be making applesauce in the classroom when we return from Fall Break. In math we are adding using number lines and doubles. This is just a few tools we can add to our math tool box. In reading we have just completed the first of five reading books. We are learning lots of new sight words and reading skills. October is filled with lots of activities. We will be taking our first field trip to Fenders Farm. We will get to explore a corn maze and pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
I hope everyone enjoys Fall Break! Mrs. Davis is going to visit with Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Disney. I hope to bring back some great pictures for all to see!

August 2010

We have gotten started off to a great year. I have 14 wonderful kids in my class. This week we are working on color words and number words along with our reading sight words. I will be sending a reading book home each night for your child to read to you. Please sit down and listen as your child reads his/her little reader. We are studying the unit ALL ABOUT ME. Each child is making a book with different things related to them. We are all alike and we are all different. This is a fun activity for the children to do.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at davism@hck12.net or send me a note. Check the blog weekly for updated information.

I plan on sending some math homework home once a week. Please see that your child completes his/her homework. We will start discussing pumpkins and spiders between now and Halloween. We will be having a Fall Share a Snack on Friday, October 30. I will send home more information on this. The Fall field trip will be on November 2. We are going to see a Junie B.
